US authorities announces arrest of four people over alleged terror plot

(MENAFN) U.S. law enforcement officials announced Monday that four individuals had been taken into custody in connection with an alleged plan to carry out an attack in Southern California during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

According to official statements, investigators said a joint effort by federal prosecutors and national security agencies halted what was described as “a massive and horrific terror plot” within the Central District of California, an area that includes Los Angeles and Orange County.

As stated in online posts released by authorities, the group known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF) was accused of “preparing to conduct a series of bombings against multiple targets in California beginning on New Year’s Eve,” with additional claims that Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel and vehicles were among the intended targets.

Federal investigators also said they “disrupted a credible, imminent terrorist threat” by arresting four suspects in the Los Angeles region. Officials alleged the individuals were “planning coordinated IED bombing attacks on New Year's Eve, targeting five separate locations across Los Angeles.”

Authorities further stated that a fifth person was detained in New Orleans in connection with what was described as a separate but related plot.

TILF, which maintains a limited presence on social media platforms, characterizes itself as a political movement advocating for the “Liberation of occupied Turtle Island and liberation of all colonized peoples across the world.” Individuals linked to the group have previously organized protests and campaigns opposing immigration detentions, deportations, and other issues framed around anti-colonial activism.

Officials have not publicly released evidence supporting the accusations, nor have they identified specific locations allegedly targeted in the plot. The group did not issue an immediate response following the arrests.

The detentions occurred amid reports of an expanded enforcement campaign by the current administration focused on left-wing organizations.
